Covered and Uncovered

Medium

Collected foliage, cyanotypes, embroidery methods and hoops, canvas fabric, and thread

Date

December 2020-February 2026

Dimension

25in x 20in

Visually breaking my body into fragments expresses the disjointed, dysmorphic feelings within oneself. The embroidery elements then stitch together these parts, as one tries to do, guiding the viewer's eyes. The leaves and flowers cover my skin while the hoops draw attention to certain body parts, covering and uncovering.

This piece is built of cyanotypes on fabric, created with negatives of my photography and foliage, and embroidery hoops and techniques. The rugged brush strokes and abrupt edges highlight one’s vulnerability and imperfections. The fabric and foliage used had been found and collected, while the cyanotype supplies shared, making the majority of this piece an upcycyled work.
